The books I have read many times are: Movies

I became interested in genealogy in the 1970's after one of my wife's relatives published a genealogy and we were given a copy. In 1981 or so, I bought a copy of Roots III and put some of the information from my wife's family, from the book we had, into the program. Then I lost interest since the process was fairly difficult.

In 1993, with better hardware, I upgraded my Roots program. I have now gone through Visual Roots to Ultimate Family Tree and finally The Master Genealogist. I have made a lot of progress during these last few years. I have attached my personal ancestry which includes most of my research. [I have made several changes to the data on that site based on input from relatives. I have not made a full update of the site since July 2006. jm 11/12/06]

    Mysteries (and Solutions)

First: John Lyell Middleton was christened on 28 March 1886 at St. Nathaniel, West Derby, Lancashire. He was my grand uncle. From a letter written in 1928, I know that he was living in Sheffield with his wife and two children, a boy and a girl. He died 23 January 1937 at Sister Treverthick's Nursing Home in Sheffield. I have been able to locate the birth of his son, Stewart Lindsay Middleton, in 1908 but little else.

Who did John Lyell marry? (Gertrude Cooke is a guess.)
What was his daughter's name and what became of her?

John Lyell Middleton's son, Stewart Lindsay Middleton, married Florence Ada Sewall in December 1930 in Manchester. Stewart was listed as a journalist on the marriage documents.

John and Florence had a daughter, Margaret Sheila Middleton, on 24 April 1931. Margaret Sheila Middleton was given up for adoption shortly after birth. If anyone knows Margaret Sheila I would like to make contact with her.

If you have any information about these people, please contact me.
